PLATT Pioneer of Graham County Passes Away After a Short Illness Mrs. Isabell Romney Platt aged 56 years beloved wife of Dr. W. E. Platt died Sunday June 8, 1919 after a short -illness of acute indigestion. The funeral services were held in the Thatcher Church yesterday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock, the funeral cortege leaving the home hereabout 2:30 o’clock pm. The church was prettily decorated with flowers and white bunting and a large crowd from all parts of the valley was in attendance. The Thatcher Ward Choir furnished the music. Prof H L Payne giving two special numbers. The deceased was very highly eulogized. Words of praise were given for her faithfulness to duty throughout her entire life and many words of comfort were given to those who mourn her death. The speakers were as follows Bishop Joseph Greenhalgh, Mrs Katherihe Pace, Joseph McFate, W W Pace, J N Heywood, J D Lee, and Bishop Frank N Jer, all of whom have been well acquainted with Mrs Platt for many years and have learned to love her for true and genuine worth. A large concourse of people followed the remains to the Thatcher cemetery. Mrs Platt was born March 3, 1863 at Salt Lake City, Utah. She was married at the age of 21 years to Dr William E Platt. Eleven children were born of this union of whom five are dead and six are living. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs Ethel Platt Crandall, Mrs Eva Platt Thorne, Mrs Nellie Platt Stevens, Mrs Clara Platt Goodman, Mrs Lola Platt Johns, and Miles Platt. Mrs Platt was one of the pioneers of Graham county having lived here for twenty years. She was an ardent worker in the Mutual Society of Layton Ward for fifteen years of which she was president for eight years. She was also a most valued-member of the Layton Relief Society. Her death came as a great shock to the entire community. Her illness lasted only a few days and it was hard to realize that she had been sick. She will be deeply mourned by many who have known her as a good friend and neighbor. She was a devoted mother and loving wife her entire life being wrapped up in her family. She was a true and faithful member of her church.
